Calling Competition

Working in association with The South Yorkshire Shooting Show & Game Fair, The Ole Hedge Creeper, Really Wild Adventures, Countryman's Diary, Lead & Lead LTD & Pass It On Young Sports. We bring you for the very first time in the UK a set of calling competition's like no other, showcasing this under the internationally renowned guidance of The Ole Hedge Creeper, you have your chance to enter a USA style Duck and or Goose calling competition (meat calling not main stream) and show the three judges that you can really call wildfowl in each of those two separate tests.

*Winners of each of the competitions will receive prizes - sponsored by Lead & Lead LTD.

The competition is open to all - whether you are an experienced caller or have never tried it before. Come on down to the stand for your FREE lesson to get you up to scratch!

Duck / Goose & Crow calling competitions start at 3.30pm sharp on Saturday the 30th of September, with no entries being taken after 2.30pm on the day. We ask that all competitiors must be at the registration desk by 2.30pm to confirm your place.

Fox / Predator calling will start at 1.30pm on Sunday the 1st of October. All callers must register by 12.30 pm. Can you squeal like a distressed rabbit, squeak like a rat, or cry like a hare or more? Come and put yourself and your calls to the test whether on your hand or a mouth blown call, or even a piece of polystyrene on glass or more.

Deer calling will follow straight after the fox calling on the Sunday. Can you bark like a Roe Buck or Roar like a Stag? As longs it's deer that we have in the UK we want to hear what you can do!

We have some of the finest judges in the land so come and show us what you have got.

*Wind / breath blown calls or natural calling only no electronic or recorded calling allowed.


Rules & Regulations

Duck / Goose / Crow

1. The South Yorkshire Game Fair Live Calling Duck/Goose/Crow Contest® and its images are property of the The South Yorkshire Game Fair, Inc. Unless specifically authorized in writing by the Executive Director of The South Yorkshire Game Fair, Professional recordings of the The South Yorkshire Game Fair Live Duck/Goose/Crow calling Contest®, including preliminary and final rounds of the competition, are strictly prohibited unless with prior permission.

2. A caller of any age may enter. There will only be a Senior division.

3. Registration will be by official Registration Form only. You may apply for your position in the contest at the bottom of this page.

4. The competition starts at approximately 3.30pm until finish, on Saturday the 30th September 2017 at the Pass It On Young Sports Stand Doncaster race course. REMINDER: All pr-registered contestants MUST check in with the Scorekeeper to confirm their per-registration some time within the hour preceding the contest, Non online applicants must register no less than 1 hour before the competition starts on the official application forms at The Pass It On Young Sports Stand.

5. Competition callers will be allowed to perform within a designated area on stage where callers will be allowed to move around and call in any direction. No sounds other than the sounds of Duck/Goose/Crow may be made in each of the separate calling competitions.

6. Contestants will call for 60 seconds in full view of the audience but CONCEALED (behind a partition) from the judges. A recording of live birds will be played for 10 seconds just prior to each contestant calling. As the contestant takes position, a red light will be turned on. Contestant will be asked whether he wants a "warm up" which is not to exceed 10 seconds. Contestant must make no sound except for calling on stage. When contestant starts calling the red light goes off. After 50 seconds the red light comes back on indicating that there are only 10 seconds left to complete his/her call. After 60 seconds the red light goes off. Calling after the light goes off will be grounds for elimination.

7. The recording of live birds, which may include any North American dabbling duck/goose/crow, will be played for the contestants prior to each round of competition and will also be played for 10 seconds prior to Each caller. The recording may be different from round to round. Callers must emulate the sounds of live ducks/geese/crow in each of the separate competitions, and may incorporate the sounds from the recording in their presentation. Callers will be judged on realism and variety of sounds.

8. Callers may use any legal, voice or non mechanical calls, ie as in hand held breath blown duck/goose/crow calls. Electronic calls are banned from this competition.

9. For any reason, the judges may ask the contestants to repeat calls.

10. Contestants will be known by Name or number depending on numbers of applicants taking part, Names and or Numbers will be selected by chance order at the last minute in the warm up room under supervision for each contestant. No contestant can leave the isolation room/area until the conclusion of the contest.

11. Scoring will be on a point system. There will be three judges. The highest score a judge can give is one hundred points.

The total number of points will be determined by totaling the score after eliminating the highest and lowest scores. The contestant with the highest total accumulated score shall be declared the winner with the next highest second and so forth.

Decisions of the judges in all matters is final.

12. There are no ties.

In the event of a tie in the finals, a call-off will determine individual place standings.

13. Any conduct unbecoming a sportsman shall result in disqualification.

14. Be respectful of callers on stage. No talking during competition and all cell phones must be turned off prior to entering theater.
